“Another Trip Around the Sun”

This is my new birthday song, Another Trip Around the Sun, in action (with my compadre Tracy Cain). Happy Birthday Isaiah!!

(Just learned that this will NOT play on a phone- nice! It WILL play on a computer or tablet.)

And here (below) is the generic version (you add the name and years).

Last year on September 28th my friend Andre texted me a birthday greeting referencing another trip around the sun.
Like any respectable songwriter I stopped and though, hmmm, that should be a song.
Here it is! “Another Trip Around the Sun”

You fill in the blank with the birthday persons name and age (With some people I suggest you let them pick their age…)

Gathered for this happy day, here we are all for one
Let’s cut the cake and celebrate,
Another trip around the sun for _____
How many trips around the sun _____

There’ve been ups and there’ve been downs, some were hard and some were fun
Blow out the candles, feel the love on
Another trip around the sun for _____
How many trips around the sun _____

“DNA”

To Charles Andrew Monagan:

DNA

Sitting at your desk in the middle of the day
Your mind starts to wander and you’re far away
Staring out the window or through an open door
Memories wash over you like the waves on the shore
You’re thinking of Arden Road, I’m thinking of Edson Lane
No matter what road we’re on, it’s all the same

It’s in the DNA, it’s in the DNA

When someone’s there from the start
They have a deeper place in your heart
We look back and listen for distant rain
And wonder if it will ever come again
There’s connection over space and time
There’s a name for the reason and rhyme
Comfortable as an old pair of jeans
You’ll know it from your deepest dreams

A thousand years from now, three thousand miles away
They’ll still know we’re brothers, a single cell will say

“Come Back”

MM on dock in Vineyard Haven back to camera.jpeg

When YOu can’t record with your band you just have to roll up your sleeves and do it yourself…

Come Back

I came home and your things were gone, come back
What I said, I know was wrong, come back
I’m sorry for what I said, sorry for being so unkind
But will you find happiness leaving all your troubles behind?

I want you when I turn out the light, come back
I reach for you in the dead of night, come back
You’ll drive and drive and then you’ll stop when you come to the sea
It’s there I hope you’ll realize no one loves you better than me
No one loves you better than me, no one, no one.

The whippoorwill in the willow tree sings, come back, come back
That lonesome song is my lonesome plea, come back
I pray I hear the sound of your voice when I pick up the phone
I’m on my knees begging you please to come home

Come back, come back home, come back, come back home
